He Kai Kei Aku Ringa

HKKAR Wānanga work with whānau, in particular rangatahi building their confidence, learning how to keep themselves well, teaching them how they can contribute to their families and communities, connecting them to the environment and to their kai and building self-resilience when they come up against challenges outside of their comfort zone.

We have an approach that teaches; Kaitiakitanga of our environments to ensure sustainability of kai for future generations; Tino Rangitiratanga – participants developing the skills to hunt, gather and feed their people, and Manaakitanga when we gather and hunt we always give – to whānau, to Kaumatua, to kaupapa, to those in need.

Through the development of these skills whānau become aware of their own abilities, they are empowered as they become valuable and add value. Being able to provide gives them a sense of purpose, and the development of skills builds their self-confidence and self-worth.
